Local sightseeing

Well worth a visit is the Monasterio de Nuestra Señora de Rueda, a magnificent example of cistercian architecture dating from the XII century. Nearby is Escatrón, an important medieval site where a thermic power station was installed in the 1950s.

After this area, the river begins to meander towards the Mequinenza reservoir at Chiprana, where there are remains of a II century Roman mausoleum embedded in the walls of the Consolación hermitage.

Further on, the river Guadalope and the Ebro join together in Caspe.  This is the site of the Sea of Aragón, a lake perfect for practising water sports.  Very little remains of the old towns of Mequinenza and Fayón, as they are covered by the waters of the Ribarroja reservoir.
